The Federal Ministry for migration and refugees is responsible for the development of the basics and the educational content of the integration course as well as its implementation.

German integration course comprises of 645 teaching hours. 600 hours are spent in language teaching and 45 hours are are for orientation course. The language teaching is divided into 6 modules (Levels A1 – B1) and ends with a free final examination.

The orientation course provides knowledge of the German legal system, culture and recent history and ends with a test. The special integration courses, for example for women, young people, parents as well as immigrants who need help with the alphabet are longer, with 945 taught hours (900 language teaching and a 45-hour orientation course).

Student Health Insurance

Health insurance is a must in Germany. You will need health insurance certificate (Krankenversicherungnachweis) to enroll in any College/University.

Insurance with family

If you are younger than 25 years, you can be insured free of charge with your parents provided they are also insured in Germany. An exception to this rule is that: if your regular monthly income exceeds Eur 360, you cannot remain insured with your parents.

Costs

At present the monthly insurance contribution amounts 53,40 EUR (AOK).

Note: If you are doing a job along with your studies, always make sure you are not crossing the number of allowed working hours. If you do so, your insurance provider will cost you extra with an argument that you are not considered a student if you are working more than number of allowed working hours.
